Paul Bendel-Simso started working as a copy editor after fleeing academia in the
mid-1990s. He began newspaper work at the Carroll County Times in Westminster, Md.,
and moved to The Baltimore Sun in 2001. He lives with his college professor wife,
Mary, and two charming daughters. He enjoys the free time that unemployment offers,
but he also likes money, which creates a complication.
He is the author of the epic poem, ‘‘The Copy Editor,’’ and was one of the initial
content editors for the site.
